Also on July 15, Anthropic — with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs — launched "Ode," a $1.5B venture that embeds forward-deployed engineers inside enterprises on a "Claude-first" basis, and acquired engineering-services startup Fractional AI. It echoes Microsoft's $2.5B "Frontier" unit from two weeks earlier: the money increasingly bets that getting AI into production is where value accrues.
Text-to-game comes to your phone
On July 16, Roblox launched "Build," which turns a text prompt into a playable game prototype on mobile — generating mechanics, environment, characters, visuals, and sound, with a public alpha starting July 28. Model watch: an open multimodal model, and Kimi K3 looms
Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab shipped its first open model, "Inkling" (July 15) — a 975B-parameter multimodal mixture-of-experts (~41B active) with an adjustable "thinking effort" dial, though the lab candidly notes it's "not the strongest overall model." Meanwhile a Financial Times report (July 16) said Moonshot's forthcoming Kimi K3 — 2–3 trillion parameters — could become China's largest open model and rival Anthropic's Opus 4.8.
