Meta's WhatsApp agent goes global; Canva plugs into Perplexity

Agents reach consumers and creators: Meta's Business Agent goes live globally in WhatsApp, Canva becomes a design partner for Perplexity's Computer — plus Microsoft's seven in-house MAI models.

Agents pushed into two huge surfaces this week — messaging and design.

Meta's Business Agent goes global on WhatsApp

On June 3, after roughly two years of testing, Meta made its customer-support Business Agent globally available in WhatsApp Business and began rolling it into Instagram DMs. It answers questions, recommends products, books appointments, qualifies leads, and reroutes to humans — putting an AI support agent in front of billions of messaging users.

Canva becomes a Perplexity design partner

On June 4, Canva shipped a connector for Perplexity's Computer agent, letting the desktop agent turn research, briefs, and meeting notes into editable Canva decks, campaigns, infographics, and brand kits (for Perplexity Pro/Max/Enterprise). It's a clean example of agents chaining across services to finish real work.

Model watch: Microsoft's seven MAI models

On the model layer, Microsoft Build (June 2) unveiled seven in-house "MAI" models — spanning reasoning, coding, image, voice, and transcription — to lessen its reliance on OpenAI. Notable mostly because it changes which models power the Microsoft tools many of these agents run on.
